2/3/2015: Chasing the elusive rings!

I've become fascinated by Black tailed Godwits and leg rings just recently. A rather sad thing to admit for a rational person but one that I'm enjoying delving into. My recent trips to Welney have resulted in spending more time studying legs than a happily  married man should admit too! Last Thursday was a rather fruitless trip as the water levels had risen suddenly again and the Godwits had moved over to the far side.

So I returned on Wednesday. A rather distant view of a Rough Legged Buzzard sitting on a post on Lady Fen was had from the bridge. The buzzard had been around for a while but this was the first time I connected with it. This made up for the fruitless trip to Holme Fen. The number of godwits would seem to have dropped but a few were located by the main hide. Sadly only two carried rings and neither were part of Project Jadrakan (which carry four rings) these having three and six respectively.

Returned to The Ouse Washes on Sunday. The number of godwits about had definitely dropped but a good flock was in front of the Buxton. These produced nine new ringed birds, four of which were part of the Jadrakan Project.
