A lovely autumnal morning, bright but cold. Walked the lower half of Burwell Fen but little around. A single Redshank on one of the pools by the cycle path and a number of Little Egret showing well. A single Dunlin in with Lapwing on the main pool.
A Kingfisher dropped in to the drainage ditch that runs from the old barn towards Cock Up. While looking for it found a juvenile Water Rail. Good numbers of Skylark and Meadow Pipit around.
Tuesday 14th November
Damp, grey start to the morning. Decided on a short walk along the old railway sidings which form part of my local patch. A Buzzard drifted over and the usual collection of House Sparrow, Blackbird, Robin and Great Tit were present as was a nice little band of Long tailed Tit.
Late afternoon stroll across Tubney Fen from the hide to the river produced a Buzzard, Kestrel (2) and a good number of Carrion Crow. By the fishing ponds were a sizable flock of tits including Long Tailed, Great and Blue and a couple of Goldcrest. A small flock of Fieldfare were moving around and flights of gulls passing over.
Wednesday 15th
A sizable flock of tits along the sidings this morning included two Goldcrest.
A miserable, damp afternoon saw us out at Burwell Fen. Sadly not a lot around but a male Marsh Harrier was causing a bit of chaos amongst the Lapwing and Golden Plover.
