A quiet start to the year with little time to get out and about.Did manage a walk around Burwell Fen on the 4th but still little about. Good views of a Barn Owl over by the old barn and two Marsh Harriers and one female.
Numbers of wildfowl remain low. Wigeon flocks not as large as previous years but good numbers of Teal. Two Egyptian Goose under the tree in the lower pool with a few Tufted Duck. A Lesser Back-backed Gull was loafing on the upper pool as was a Buzzard sitting on a post.
January 6th: Soham Railway Sidings
Evening walk just as the sun was setting was rewarded by the sight of two Woodcock roding along the old railway sidings. was able to watch them for five minutes or so as they flew in and out of the trees before disappearing towards Wicken. Last time I saw one in this location was 28th January 2013 and had one further along the railway lines March 2015.
